Professor Thomas explains his ambitions for this incredible series —Gresham College
Professor Martyn Thomas is a man on a mission; to make software engineering as formally regulated and professional as any other engineering discipline. It is “too Important” to leave it as a loose collection of ideals and guidelines. Here Professor Thomas outlines how he will attempt to achieve this through his lecture series.
Martyn Thomas is an internationally recognised expert in software engineering who holds visiting professorships at three top Universities including the University of Oxford. Beyond his academic posts, Professor Thomas is often called upon to be an expert witness and also to advise Parliament on cyber security matters. Gresham College is proud to have Professor Thomas as our first IT Livery Company Professor of Information Technology.
Professor Thomas will deliver the six lectures of the newest Professorship over the 2015-16 Academic year. The series will examine the place off computing in modern society, and what we should hope will be its future. From pressing issues like cyber security threats to possible futures with driverless cars and intense automation, this series is hugely important and focuses on issues that affect the entire world.
